Life rarely works out like we imagine it will. After graduating from Purdue University in 1988, Daphne began her first career as a chemical engineer in the oil and gas industry. While she enjoyed the experience and opportunities, she felt the desire to somehow impact people directly. So, after seven years she hung up her hardhat and began her second career in the financial services industry because she wanted to help people have a better relationship with money. Since then, she has earned valuable experience at several traditional advisory firms working with high net worth clients, small businesses and non-profit organizations. She returned to school, completed the Executive Financial Planning program at Xavier University and earned her Certified Financial Planner® certification.

Along the way, Daphne volunteered at Dress for Success and other non-profit organizations teaching people basic financial concepts and literacy. It became clear that her passion was providing unbiased financial education free from selling insurance products or managing money. Daphne joined Financial Finesse and was instrumental in helping the company design and implement workplace provided financial wellness programs for employees; including several NFL teams. As a Financial Coach at Edyoucore, Daphne draws on that experience to help people in sports and entertainment become better equipped to address their financial, lifestyle and business affairs.

Daphne is the proud mom of twin daughters who are Ohio State Buckeyes. In her free time, Daphne enjoys live music, all sports, time on the beach, travel and sampling good red wine. She also volunteers with local non-profit organizations. Her life is nothing like she imagined it would be – it’s so much better.

Bart Scott

Consultant · Former NFL Player

Bart Scott is one of those success stories we don’t hear as often as we should.

Growing up relatively poor on the east side of Detroit, Bart was lucky to have a strong family network that made surviving the violent and drug-infested neighborhood of Hurlbut Street possible. He also had football and his high school coach keeping him on a straight path to college football at Southern Illinois University which then led being signed in 2002 as an undrafted free agent in the NFL -- a dream that many kids with his background don’t always get to realize.

It is so often that headlines are written about athletes transcending meager beginnings to earn more money than they thought possible only to lose it all. That’s not the case with Bart. After getting his first big money, Bart treated himself to a fur coat and that was the end of his frivolous spending. He made a conscious effort to bank as much as he could to ensure he could make the league paychecks count for when he was done playing.

Bart played 11 seasons as a linebacker in the league splitting his time on the gridiron between the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets -- retiring in 2013.

Bart’s talent as an athlete is equally matched by his skill for the world of broadcasting. He has found similar success in the world of sports TV and radio and has enjoyed imparting his wisdom and insights on CBS’ Sports Network and WFAN. His broadcasting experience also includes ESPN radio and television commentary.

Edyoucore is lucky to have Bart’s true-life experiences to share with up-and-coming athletes. He has a knack for making complex topics approachable and speaking candidly about and the importance of having the right financial mindset to make the most of a pro career and beyond.

Bart holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Southern Illinois – which he completed while playing for the NFL.

Bart is married to Darnesha and together they have three children: two sons, Bartholomew and Bryce and a daughter, Gisele.

As an actor, singer, producer, and director in the worlds of film, stage and television, it’s easy to say that Tamara Tunie’s talents know no bounds. Her list of starring and supporting roles can be counted among some of the most notable and popular productions for both TV and the big screen. Her fortes have also graced the stages of Broadway and Off-Broadway earning her awards for both, including the prestigious Tony Award.

While Tamara’s successes have spanned decades in one of the toughest industries around, what many might not know is that she was the unfortunate victim of fraud and embezzlement – losing $1.2 million of her hard-earned money earlier in her career. As a result, Tamara is determined to lend her experiences to help educate others on the pitfalls of what can occur when you trust the wrong people and do not have the financial education required to protect your resources, even when you THINK you do.

Outside her performing career and time with Edyoucore, philanthropy plays a central role in Tamara’s life. Her philanthropic work has included board and leadership roles with Harlem Stage/The Gate House, God’s Love We Deliver, and Figure Skating in Harlem. Tamara holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from Carnegie Mellon University.

Edyoucore is privileged to call Tamara a co-star in our mission of rewriting the script of financial failings that result from a lack of financial literacy.

Rory Sparrow

Consultant, Organizational Relations and Business Development

Rory spent 12 years in the NBA playing for teams on both coasts with stops in between. Drafted in 1980 by the New Jersey Nets, he then moved on to the Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings and the Los Angeles Lakers – retiring after the 1991-1992 season.

Beyond his accomplishments on the hardwood, Rory established his own foundation in 1984. The foundation’s noble goal of discouraging underprivileged children in New York and New Jersey from the negative influences of drugs, provided access to programs designed to develop their identities through leadership and guidance.

For his endeavors, Sparrow was recognized in 1986 as a co-winner of the NBA’s J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award. Then, in the 1987 year-end issue of Sports Illustrated, Sparrow was featured on the cover as one of eight Athletes Who Care.

In 1994, Rory continued his NBA career by joining the league offices, serving in various capacities that spanned several decades.

Edyoucore is privileged to have Rory share his experiences from his time as a player and within the league administrative offices. In both of his capacities, he has witnessed the real need for financial literacy. Just as he had done through his own foundation and now, through Edyoucore and its mission to improve the financial skills, Rory is driven to help others through his leadership and guidance.

Rushia Brown

Consultant, Former WNBA Player

Rushia Brown’s accomplishments and accolades both on and off the court are as remarkable as they come. She has played and excelled at every level of basketball and is working to make a difference in the lives of girls and women through the sport of basketball. Edyoucore is lucky enough to call her a team member who will share her unique background with both men and women athletes.

Rushia’s basketball life began in High School – albeit in her Junior year. But her innate athleticism paired with hard work and dedication paid off quickly when she was recruited as a top student-athlete in her Senior year. Those knocking on her door included some of the best: Harvard, Duke, and her dream school UNC-Chapel Hill but she chose to study and play at Furman University to stay close to her South Carolina home after the loss of her father.

At Furman she crushed it. Rushia collected every honor possible including Southern Conference Freshman of the Year then Player of the year, numerous MVP titles, the Edna Hartness Athlete of the Year and eventually had her #34 jersey retired like all the great ones do.

Pro ball followed, not surprisingly. Rushia spent a lengthy 17-year career spanning five countries (Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Korea) and two states with a career split between overseas and as a pioneer player for the WNBA. Her professional career included ten years internationally, six years in Cleveland, and a year in Charlotte.

Playing at the levels she did, Rushia recognized a need for post-career players and jumped on it. By founding the Women’s Professional Basketball Alumnae (WPBA), she aims to help women players transition back into off-the-court life. The organization supports women who have played professionally in the WNBA or overseas with resources for career transition, higher education, philanthropy, and personal well-being.

Rushia’s experience also includes public relations for Young Black Entrepreneur (YBE) Magazine, an educational platform for those with entrepreneurial aspirations.

High achievers like Rushia are always looking for more ways to use their talents and as an Edyoucore team member, our clients will have access to her unique knowledge and experiences both current and past to help them navigate their careers and all that come with it.

LinkedIn profile (opens in a new tab)

Greg Oden was the first overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft after his freshman year at Ohio State University.

Plagued by knee injuries throughout his time playing, Greg was eventually forced to move on from his pro career in 2016 after playing his last season in China.

Greg later completed his degree at Ohio State University. While finishing his studies at Ohio State he served as manager of the basketball team and assisted with player development.

Greg knows first-hand that the future doesn’t always play out how you might expect it to. Beyond pro teams cutting players for new talent, injury is a reality some players forget to calculate into their financial outlooks. Greg’s earning years were muted because of his injuries but he’s learned how to oversee and manage those who manage his money so that he can make the most of his prior income.

Drawing on his experiences in the NBA and his interest in helping to develop younger players, Greg knew he had a lot to lend to helping educate today’s pro athletes. Along with his personal story, Greg’s easy-going, affable nature is an asset to Edyoucore’s mission of building financial literacy with today’s athletes based on real life and judgement-free conversations.

Jumaine L. Jones

Consultant, Former NBA Player

A 16-year professional basketball veteran, Jumaine Jones utilizes his “pro-athlete status” as a platform to educate youth that the game of basketball is bigger than just skills and the game itself.

Jumaine Jones also known as the “Thrilla from Camilla” graduated from Mitchell-Baker High school in 1997. He attended the University of Georgia on a full basketball scholarship. After two years of college, Jumaine decided to enter the 1999 NBA draft and was drafted 27th in the first round. He was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks but traded immediately to the Philadelphia 76ers. Jones #33 first made a name for himself in the 2001 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers flying high with his dunks off of alley-oops from Allen Iverson. After 8 years in the NBA, Jumaine also played an impressive 8 years of International Basketball and travelled the world.

Committed to holistic community outreach, in 2017, Jumaine Jones became the founding President of Beyond the Hardwood Academy, LLC. The organization grew from his commitment to empowering youth. Beyond the Hardwood Academy, LLC was developed to support youth by creating athletic events and mentoring programs that empower them to excel in athletics, leadership, literacy and community service.

Jumaine has been very active in giving back to the community. He has partnered with multiple organizations and more for community events providing free food; basketball camps, school supplies, fundraising, motivational speaking, and mentoring youth.

Jumaine, born in Cocoa, Florida and raised by a single mother, experienced the pressures of real life early on when he witnessed a murder at the tender age of 13. To protect her son, Jumaine’s mother made the difficult decision to send her son back to her hometown of Camilla, Georgia to live with a relative. Jumaine uses his childhood to encourage youth to make important strategic transitions that will lead them to success.

In 2015, Jumaine walked away from the game of basketball. During his retirement, he became despondent and could no longer identify his purpose. Jumaine found himself indulging in alcohol and inexplicable relationships. This behavior went on for 3 years before he gained the courage to ask for help. During this process, he uncovered childhood issues that were suppressed during his basketball years.

After receiving the help he needed, Jumaine decided to help others by becoming a mental health advocate and motivational speaker. Jumaine has a passion for speaking his truth about past experiences. “I want to use my platform in every way possible to educate our youth and the community at large to eliminate the stigma of mental health”, Jumaine said. That’s what led him to write his very first book, “The Last Man Standing, Behind the Game”.

In 2021, Jumaine Jones became the founding President of Beyond the Hardwood, Inc., a nonprofit focused on breaking the stigma of mental health. Beyond the Hardwood is committed to educating and empowering athletes and the community by building their self-esteem, raising mental health awareness and creating transformative life skills.
